Event Details

Berno Odo Polzer

Prasad Shetty

Rakhee Balaram

After Condensation

Santhosh Sadanandan

 06.06

Time:morning(10: 00-12: 30)

Guest: Berno Odo Polzer
Duration: 20mins
Title/Theme: Listening Together(1)

Abstract: I’d like to propose  a moment of listening together – a shared experiencing of and reflection upon the elusive materiality of thesonic. I am interested in the politics of listening. It would be great if you could bring sounds you like or find important – anything, really, from music to sound forensics. I’ll bring some stuff and would be eager to listen to the yet unknown or the unknowable.

Guest: Prasad Shetty
Duration: 15mins
Title/Theme: Field Notes from Mumbai(1)

Abstract: the presentation will be a reading of a few short stories from my field notes in Mumbai, along with some images. These are stories of different persons – a velvet machine assembler, a small job contractor, atruck owner, a construction labourer, a widow, and an ex-mafia operator. In many ways, these stories nuance and reconfigure the understanding of rights, capital movements, bureaucracy, property, urban form and infrastructure in thecity.

Guest: Rakhee Balaram
Duration: 20mins
Title/Theme: The Insect, The Phantom and the Badaud, or Bystander(1)

Abstract: Rakhee plans to present a talk about each  of the three protagonists to consider their role in nature, art, and in the  social sciences drawing on science, philosophy and history. Her interest here  is in insect mimicry, the figure of the ghost (recurring in our workshop in  different guises) and the badaud, or the bystander. These three figures will  be considered as positions in which to inhabit the contemporary. All the  content above will be divided into three parts for the workshop:

PART ONE:

Lecture/Talk Presentation:  a discussion on how to understand these 3 protagonists within the contemporary and in relationship to our own subject positions.

PART TWO:

Inviting participants to generate a play  in three acts: participants would be asked to choose one of the three protagonists:  the Insect, the Phantom, or the Badaud, or Bystander, generating a dialogue  in the form of a play which would be in three acts (possibly in any language). The resulting dialogue will be read in the performance in Part Three as a  generative exercise and as a comment upon inhabiting positions of space  (actual or virtual) and the way our bodies’ morphologies adapt to it. This  would be something that would be produced in real time as a creative act of  mimicry as we embody/disembody our subject positions to exceed them-hypertelia.

PART THREE:

The Ballad of the Badaud – a performance: participants would read their play together through the individual acts and in various languages by performing their individual roles in an act of the play.

Title/Theme: Wheel of the Eyebrows

Abstract: I was so attracted by the lotus’s unique shape and structure that I used it in this works. The dark holes distributed on the surface of the seed pod of the lotus presents a mysterious and fascinating picture before my eyes, as if each of the lotus seed deep hides another invisible and secret world .In this work, some holes filled with the colorful bubbles, which reflected the colorful sunlight.

Guest: Santhosh Sadanandan
Duration: 30mins
Title/Theme: A Pedagogy of Partage(1)

Abstract: how do we imagine or conceptualise a process of art making or practice of art without being instrumental in character but at least tangentially political? In a collective, or institutional level what constitutes such an initiative? Taking some cues from two pedagogical initiatives that I was an integral part of, my presentation attempts to engage with some of the problematics embedded in the field of artistic production. This presentation may suggest that more than any pillars of the field, the passivity sedimented in art pedagogy will end angerthe ‘commons’ in/of art. Ina Rancierian sense, a visual art pedagogy of partage or sharing envision sartistic practices which simultaneously disclose in the visual fields what we share, operate divisions within the visual, and partition between the visible and invisible.
